Like people before us we also felt we had hit the jackpot by staying at Kawehi's home. The place is in walking distance to downtown Hilo. You have your own entrance, all the privacy you need, a terrace looking out on a lovely garden, and lots of space inside. It is like renting a whole apartment. And it has a lot of character. Every piece of furniture and every other little thing that makes Kawehi's home so special has its own history. Kawehi is such a nice and caring person, so charming and so knowledgable about everything concerning the Big Island -- a real Hawaiian auntie. She gave us lots of essential advice and made our three day stay at her home extremely enjoyable. We felt like being in paradise.

This place is the best! Beautiful house, centrally located, the host is incredibly sweet - she cooks breakfast every morning and even offered to give me a ride whenever I was going somewhere and she was around. Highly recommended!

Kawehi and her home are both beautiful experiences. Kawehi made our stay in Hilo so nice that we decided to return on our way back. She was wonderfully hospitable and genuinely warm, caring, and enjoyable to speak with. Her home is beautiful and located near downtown Hilo. It's located in a beautiful setting and really feels like a home away from home. Overall a truly wonderful experience and a beautiful way to experience Hawaii. Thank you Kawehi.

I live in Saipan and at home we are surrounded by gardens. Nothing has changed accept that we are on the Hilo side of the Big Island and experience new sounds, sights , scents and taste. For the short time that I was at Kawehi home, she gave the mood of what Hawaii of the past and what I missed when I moved away decades ago. I highly recommend staying at her place.

Kawehi's house is not just a vacation rental, for me it felt like being at home. It was not just the beautyful house in the best area of Hilo that is decorated with love. It was Kawehi who made may stay so wonderful! She is a great and caring person with a hudge knowledge about Hawaiian culture that she shared with me (it was a great experience!) Kawehi cooked for me a delicious Hawaiian dinner (I just can recommend it to everyone!!) and shared the one and another glass of wine. We had a great evening on her veranda. She also showed me around Hilo and told me lot about Hilo and its people. All in all I couldn't have been more impressed, pleased and welcomed. Mahalo, Kawehi - a new friend.

This is the real deal, folks. In all my years of travel, never have I been so moved. Kawehi's home is literally an art installation dedicated to family love, Hawaiian style. You will experience a hum with a rhythm that took decades to create. If you are an artist, poet, critic or curator, you owe it to yourself to feel this home and its grounds. Kawehi is a Hawaiian folk artist and Hale Kaehi is a warm blanket.
